Sustainability

Sustainability and climate change is an important issue for us here at Sandringham. Through our eco-education curriculum, assemblies and visitors to school, we aim to raise the awareness of climate change and educate pupils on what steps we can take to protect our environment.

We have an Eco-Ambassador team that meet every half term, which provides pupils the opportunity to share their ideas on sustainability projects that they would like to make a difference to in school. The team in made up of 12 pupils from year 1 to year 6. Pupils in the team are enthusiastic and passionate about making a difference to our daily habits and ensuring everybody in school are taking steps to be ‘greener’.

Over the last year, the Eco-Ambassadors have worked on the followingactivities and events:

  • Increasing awareness of recycling and litter through litter picking fundraising days and litter picking in the community alongside Doncaster Council.
  • Increasing awareness about air quality through our Active Travel weeks.
  • Taking part in the Sustrans Walk and Wheel event to promote active travel.
  • Educating pupils on how to stay safe on the roads when travelling actively through our annual Get Bright Day.
  • Cycle training days.
  • Sandringham school garden project where children designed and createda school garden for pupils to enjoy.

In the next academic year, the Eco-Ambassadors would like to:

  • Continue to educate pupils and staff on the positive effect of recycling.
  • Look at food wastage in school and try to decrease the amount at lunch and snack times.
  • Tidy and develop our school wild life area and encourage more pupils to explore the area more often.
  •
