The Thrive Approach at Sandringham Primary School

At Sandringham Primary School, we believe that happy, confident, and emotionally secure children are ready and open to learning. The Thrive Approach helps us achieve just that — by supporting every child’s social and emotional development in a positive, nurturing environment.

Grounded in the latest neuroscience, attachment theory, and child development research, Thrive provides us with a powerful framework for understanding how children learn and grow. It also helps us respond in a targeted way when children have experienced challenges or need extra emotional support, ensuring every child feels safe, valued, and ready to succeed.

We are proud to be a school that embraces the Thrive Approach throughout everything we do. Thrive is not just an intervention — it’s a whole-school ethos. Every member of our staff uses Thrive strategies in lessons, on the playground, and in every interaction. This shared approach helps us build strong relationships, create a calm and caring atmosphere, and prepare our pupils for life’s emotional ups and downs.

“Thrive helps me calm down and think before I do something.” – KS2 pupil
“I feel safe when I talk about my feelings.” – KS1 pupil
“It’s amazing to see how children grow in confidence and resilience.” – Thrive practitioner

Through the Thrive Approach, our children learn to:
• Understand and manage their feelings.
• Think before acting and make positive choices.
• Talk openly about their emotions and worries with trusted adults.
• Show empathy, kindness, and respect towards others.
• Work together, listen, and share ideas.
• Develop resilience and persevere through challenges.
• Feel proud of their achievements and ready to learn.

At Sandringham, we know that emotional wellbeing and academic achievement go hand in hand. Thrive helps us nurture the whole child — so that every pupil can truly thrive in life and learning.
