Sandringham Shines As STARS School Of Doncaster

posted 17 Nov 2017, 12:02 by Sandringham School

Pupils and staff are jumping, cycling, scooting and walking for joy as Sandringham Primary School has become the 2017 STARS School of Doncaster.

Mr Gunn, our active travel champion, joined Mrs Watts and four of our pupils to collect the award at today's prestigious ceremony in Leeds.  The event was a great opportunity for Sandringham and the other nominated schools to share best practice and celebrate our achievements.

Modeshift STARS is the national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel.  The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people. Sandringham is one of over 3000 schools to have joined the STARS scheme across the region, and one of just over 900 to have received formal accreditation.  Completing an application for Modeshift STARS also means that we automatically have a national standard School Travel Plan.

A huge well done to Mr Gunn for leading this aspect of the school's work, and to pupils, their families and staff for supporting active travel.
