Guitar Lessons

posted 12 Jan 2021, 03:49 by Louise Sutton

Well done to everyone on their guitar lesson guitar. Year 4 you were awesome getting things changed from school to home so quickly!

Mr Merritt was really impressed with you all and it was a great success. If you play guitar and you haven't signed up to join the online lessons then please drop me an email and we will get this organised for you. arts@sandringham.school

Those who accessed your lesson in school - if you end up self isolating then please don't worry we can organise things really quickly to ensure you can still access the lessons, as the Y4's demonstrated this week! Just please email me and let me know you are isolating so I can organise things for you.

Ideally please could you have your guitar tuned prior to your lesson, it just saves lots of time in your lesson, especially as Mr Merritt can't physically do it for you. I used this website yesterday and it worked a treat!

https://tuner-online.com/

If you scroll down it tells you the peg to turn, and what note/ number it should be tuned to. If you click on turn on tuner your microphone will listen to playing the note and the peg will go green when its correct :) It will get easier the more you do it.

Please drop me an email if you're stuck with anything.

Instrumental Lessons

posted 7 Jan 2021, 03:16 by Louise Sutton

We have had a fantastic start to our remote violin lessons today and I am so excited to start clarinets and recorders, along with guitars on Tuesday next week. I have sent all grown-ups an email explaining about this. Once you reply to say you would like to continue your child's instrumental lesson then I will send you the appropriate consent form. Consent is needed because these lessons will take place via Microsoft Teams. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you haven't received your email with the details on these online lessons, so that I can get your child set up.

Remote learning

posted 5 Jan 2021, 02:37 by Tanisha Walker

Hello Toucan Class,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a happy new year!

As you will know by now, Our Prime Minister has announced a national lockdown including the closure of all schools to most pupils in England starting today. Although some key worker children will still be coming into school, the majority of you will be continuing learning and completing your lessons remotely.

This week, we will be uploading daily tasks onto Seesaw which you are all familiar with. We will upload an English, maths, reading, spelling and a topic (wider curriculum) activity each day, starting today. All tasks will be uploaded by 3pm, ready for the following day. This gives you chance to print off any worksheets and email us if you have any questions about the tasks. To make your day easier to follow, we will send a daily timetable as an announcement at the 3 pm also.  We ask that English and maths tasks are completed and submitted on to Seesaw by 12 pm, if possible, so we can mark these and provide feedback. Topic activities should be submitted onto Seesaw by 3 pm. If these times are not suitable for whatever reason, then please contact us as we are flexible around these timings and understand that everyone's circumstances are different.

Starting next week we will be providing daily video input via teams for English and maths. Each child will be provided with a teams account which will be sent out by the end of this week. Invitations to daily teams meetings will be sent out by me to your email. You will just need to click on the link at the correct time and it will take you straight into the meeting.

We appreciate that this is a lot of information and that this method of remote learning is new to all of us, so please feel free to email with any questions you may have to our class email:toucans@sandringham.school

I know you will all be amazing during this period and I hope you are all looking forward to starting your learning from home.

Stay safe,

Miss Walker :)

Information for Term 2

posted 16 Dec 2020, 08:04 by Tanisha Walker

Good afternoon everyone! Since we are moving into term 2 very soon, Mr Ellis and I just wanted to share some important information with you about the upcoming term. First of all, our topic for next term will be Survival and our core text will be Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. During this topic, we will be learning all about the survival needs of different animals, about different countries around the world and famous survivalists. Swimming will also be part of the curriculum for term 2 and will take place on Tuesdays. Information about this has been sent out via text. Please feel free to ask any questions about this via email. For next term, home learning and reading diaries will still be due on every Friday, however this can be adjusted for children who prefer to do home learning/reading at the weekends. Lastly, we wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your children for your effort in this first half term. Have a lovely Christmas!
Stay safe,
Miss Walker.

Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella – A Christmas gift from Opera North…

posted 13 Dec 2020, 02:43 by Louise Sutton

This song resource is being sent out in advance of us sending out our free Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella performance film to schools by the beginning of next week, so children have time to learn the short song in preparation for watching and joining in with the performance!

This is being sent out as a Christmas gift from Opera North, as we realise it hasn’t been possible for schools to undertake Christmas trips out to the theatre during this festive season. We hope this will bring the magic of opera to pupils and teachers and will be the next best thing to bringing a live Christmas production.

Please find links to the resources below:

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Hello everybody,

How have we almost finished our first term as Toucans? I can't believe how fast it has flown by! We have done some incredible learning and we have much more to come next term.

Since our last update, we have now finished our Victorian paintings and they all turned out brilliantly! The children modelled the style of L.S Lowry really well and demonstrated their understanding of perspective in artwork. Another highlight of this term is the children's writing, as they have just completed their complex dilemma stories using suspense to engage the reader. They have wrote complex stories based on being trapped in a haunted house and being stranded on a boat. As I was reading them, I didn't want to put them down as they were so enjoyable and exciting to read. I couldn't wait to find out what happened at the end!

In music, we have been learning about the Royal Albert Hall and the children were given the opportunity to practice and perform an act of their choice. We had a variety of acts, such as jugglers, dancers, comedians, cheerleaders, singers and many more! It was really nice to see the children give it their best shot and I would love to see some of them on Britain's Got Talent in the future!

Here are some key reminders for next term:
PE will still continue to be on a Tuesday.
In addition to spellings and reading, it would be fantastic if the children could learn their times tables.
Home learning will be set on Seesaw weekly. I am very pleased with the engagement on Seesaw so far, so thank you for your hard work!

I can't wait to see the children in their Christmas jumpers on Friday 11th December and we have lots of fun activities to do next week ready for the festive holidays!

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a fantastic New Year! Stay safe and enjoy!

Children's University

Hello to my lovely musicians. Everyone who has an instrumental lesson in school are all now set up online to be able to record their instrumental lesson each week. When you go for your violin, clarinet, guitar, or recorder lesson please ask your teacher for a sticker and put it in your passport - or if you forget your reading diary. Your grown-ups can then log your hours on the children university website:

https://login.childrensuniversity.co.uk/Account/Login

On your sticker is the stamp - which is the colour and four digit code.

Any problems please email me: arts@sandringham.school

Our highlights so far!

posted 10 Nov 2020, 08:45 by Tanisha Walker

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying your first term as much as I am!

In Toucan class, we have been doing some fantastic learning and we have lots more to come. The children have been thoroughly enjoying our Victorian topic lessons and I am super impressed with their interaction with Seesaw which has also enhanced their learning of the topic.  Some of our class highlights include, making Victorian toys, participating in a class debate and writing some brilliant diary entries.

Already, we have had some incredible highlights of this term leading up to Christmas! The children are really enjoying their PE lessons on a Tuesday which involve learning the skills to play Basketball They have also started to look at a famous Victorian artist named L.S Lowry and by the end of next week they will be creating their own piece of art work inspired by Lowry. I am very excited to see the children put their creative skills into action to produce some wonderful paintings.

I also thought it would be useful to update you on some key reminders:
- The children have PE on a Tuesday so if they could come to school in their PE kits that would be great!
- Home learning on Seesaw is due on a Friday to earn their free time.
- If the children can learn their spellings and read 3 times a week that would also be fantastic!

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication! I really cherish your time and support.

From Miss Walker.

Composer Top Trumps Cards

posted 22 Oct 2020, 02:35 by Louise Sutton

Following on from your music lesson where you created a small fact file for some Romantic Composers, I would like you to create some top trumps cards.

I have included an example template for Classical Composers so replace the information of Classical composers for Romantic composes. You could do it in power point like I have done or you could do some hand written ones. You choose how best to create these cards, then we can have a game of top trumps when we come back after half term.

Instrumental Lessons

All new recorder, clarinet and violin places have now been taken, which is great news and the families of the children concerned have been contacted. You should have received an email from myself with either a letter in regards to clarinet lessons or a sign up link from the music service for violin lessons. If you have signed your child up and haven't received an email then please don't hesitate to contact me. Recorder players have been sent a text message asking them to remember their recorder on Friday.

I am really excited that despite the current circumstances that performing arts is still a priority at Sandringham and am really excited to hear the lessons develop, as we prepare for our virtual Christmas Concert!
