Guitar Lessons

posted 12 Jan 2021, 03:50 by Louise Sutton

Well done to everyone on their guitar lesson guitar. Year 4 you were awesome getting things changed from school to home so quickly!

Mr Merritt was really impressed with you all and it was a great success. If you play guitar and you haven't signed up to join the online lessons then please drop me an email and we will get this organised for you.

Those who accessed your lesson in school - if you end up self isolating then please don't worry we can organise things really quickly to ensure you can still access the lessons, as the Y4's demonstrated this week! Just please email me and let me know you are isolating so I can organise things for you.

Ideally please could you have your guitar tuned prior to your lesson, it just saves lots of time in your lesson, especially as Mr Merritt can't physically do it for you. I used this website yesterday and it worked a treat!

If you scroll down it tells you the peg to turn, and what note/ number it should be tuned to. If you click on turn on tuner your microphone will listen to playing the note and the peg will go green when its correct :) It will get easier the more you do it.

Please drop me an email if you're stuck with anything.

Instrumental Lessons

posted 7 Jan 2021, 03:17 by Louise Sutton

We have had a fantastic start to our remote violin lessons today and I am so excited to start clarinets and recorders, along with guitars on Tuesday next week. I have sent all grown-ups an email explaining about this. Once you reply to say you would like to continue your child's instrumental lesson then I will send you the appropriate consent form. Consent is needed because these lessons will take place via Microsoft Teams. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you haven't received your email with the details on these online lessons, so that I can get your child set up.

School Closure

posted 5 Jan 2021, 02:57 by Jade Toop

Hi Raven Class I am very sorry that the Government announced yesterday that we will not be coming back to class for a while. I was really looking forward to seeing you all and hearing about your holidays. I know you are going to be brilliant with our remote learning just like you all are in class. Everyday please make sure you log into Seesaw. You need to complete the English, Maths, Spelling, Reading, and Wider Curriculum activity that has been allocated to you. There will be an optional well-being and mindfulness task this one does not need to be completed. The timetable of tasks and the tasks will be released by 3pm on the day before so you can be ready for the activities. You can do tasks in any order but it is important that you complete all tasks. Please ask questions if you are at all unsure. During this period of remote learning, please do yourself proud and put 100% effort into your learning. I will be working hard to make sure everything is ready for you, develops your knowledge further and is interesting. You know I can’t wait to see what you produce so work hard and make sure you submit all your tasks every day. You are awesome remember and We Can Do This!!! If you need any help or support at all during this time, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. You can email me anytime and I will reply as soon as I see it. I am here every step of the way to support you and your children. Take care Mrs Topping

Hello Raven Class,

I am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Here are a few reminders for when you return to school:
  • Please arrive in our allocated time slot
  • Remember to remain socially distant from friends in other bubbles
  • Remember to not be in close contact with friends from your own bubble - No hugging in the playground when you first see one another.
  • Remember no school bags are needed in school - on your PE day you can come in your PE kit. Your PE day will be Tuesday.
  • Remember to bring reading books and reading diaries each day in a plastic food bag
  • No snacks need to come into school now as our fruit bowls are filled daily
  • Remember to dress to keep warm in the classroom as all the windows will be open throughout the school day
  • Remember to access Seesaw for home learning and to upload your home learning. Home learning books do not need to come into school
See you tomorrow, can't wait to hear about your Christmas.

Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella – A Christmas gift from Opera North…

posted 13 Dec 2020, 02:48 by Louise Sutton

This song resource is being sent out in advance of us sending out our free Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella performance film to schools by the beginning of next week, so children have time to learn the short song in preparation for watching and joining in with the performance!

This is being sent out as a Christmas gift from Opera North, as we realise it hasn’t been possible for schools to undertake Christmas trips out to the theatre during this festive season. We hope this will bring the magic of opera to pupils and teachers and will be the next best thing to bringing a live Christmas production.

Our highlights so far!

posted 8 Dec 2020, 08:03 by Jade Toop

Hi Everyone,

I hope you have enjoyed your first term in year 6, as much as I have!

In Raven class, we have been doing some fantastic learning and we have lots more to come. The children have been thoroughly enjoying our WW2 topic, creating some great presentations for Remembrance day and using their knowledge to write great diaries and newspaper articles. They are very excited to design them, which will be available on Seesaw. This term in Science children have learnt about electricity and creating their own circuits, which we are using in our Christmas cards this year.

After the Christmas holidays, we will be starting our new topic based on the book Gorilla Dawn. We will be looking at Africa and the evolution of animals. Key highlights will include creating African art and cooking.

I also thought it would be useful to update you on some key reminders:
- The children have PE on a Wednesday so if they could come to school in their PE kits that would be great!
- Home learning and reading 3 times a week is due on a Friday to earn their free time.
- If children can practice times tables and spelling each week that would benefit them in lessons.

Thank you for all your hard work and dedication!

From Mrs Topping

Children's University

Hello to my lovely musicians. Everyone who has an instrumental lesson in school are all now set up online to be able to record their instrumental lesson each week. When you go for your violin, clarinet, guitar, or recorder lesson please ask your teacher for a sticker and put it in your passport - or if you forget your reading diary. Your grown-ups can then log your hours on the children university website:

On your sticker is the stamp - which is the colour and four digit code.

Any problems please email me:

10 Day Active Challenge

posted 12 Oct 2020, 05:23 by Jade Toop

Today is the start of our 10 day active challenge!! Well done to those children who are already walking to school. Can you see if you can walk any days this week, even if your parents drop you a little away from school? Also, it will be Get Bright Day on Friday 23rd October, so be thinking about how you can be the brightest child.

This week we have been improving our mental maths skills.

After we loved it so much, here is a copy of the Strike It Out game for you to play with parents.

What is your best solution? Send it in via email to and I will post it to the blog.

Good luck!
