Remote learning

Hi everyone,

I hope you have had a good Christmas. In the light of last nights announcement we have planned activities for you to do this week on Seesaw. Next week we will be doing some live lessons for English and Maths and also adding phonics videos for you to take part in. For Maths, we will assign some independent activities, if you are finding the work tricky start on Bronze level and then progress to Silver if you are able. Alternatively, if you are finding the work OK, start on Silver and progress to Gold if you want a further challenge.

Attached you can find this week's timetable. Any questions please email me (lizards@sandringham.school).

Take care.

Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella – A Christmas gift from Opera North…

posted 13 Dec 2020, 02:41 by Louise Sutton

This song resource is being sent out in advance of us sending out our free Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella performance film to schools by the beginning of next week, so children have time to learn the short song in preparation for watching and joining in with the performance!

This is being sent out as a Christmas gift from Opera North, as we realise it hasn’t been possible for schools to undertake Christmas trips out to the theatre during this festive season. We hope this will bring the magic of opera to pupils and teachers and will be the next best thing to bringing a live Christmas production.

Term 1

posted 3 Dec 2020, 02:00 by Patricia Freitas   [ updated 8 Dec 2020, 08:39 ]

Lizards have had an exciting and very busy half term.

We have been busy practising our phonics ready for our phonics screening check. We are proud of all the children’s efforts when practising reading alien words and real words.

As part of our knights and castles topic, we have been using our geography skills to locate castles around the country. In music we have composed our own hairy scary castle song and accompanied it with percussion instruments. This term in history children have explored life in a castle. They have learnt about the features of medieval castles and how they were built to protect the people living inside.

We have also continued to be scientist carrying out different experiments, exploring different materials and their properties.

We have enjoyed our PE sessions with our Activ8 coach on a Monday, who has been teaching us some new skills. We have also taken part in another Activ8 PE competition, which was great fun!

Well done to all those children who continue to upload their weekly Maths and English work on Seesaw and also the creative pieces you have added as part of our topic.

We have been busy rehearsing for our virtual Christmas concert, we hope you enjoy it!

Term 2a

Next half term we will explore the enquiry question "How is where I live unique?". In Geography we will get to learn more about our local area and other places around the world.

In Science we will learn about materials and forces.

In History we will compare old and new buildings. We will also learn about an important female aviator and her journey to Australia!

Reminders:

  • From January, our PE day will be Friday - please come with outdoor PE kit on.
  • Christmas jumper day on the 11th December. Please can children’s reading diaries be updated and brought to school on Thursday for staff to check whether the child has read 3 or more times that week.

A special thank you to all parents and carers for supporting the children and school by following the routines and rules.

Hello Year 2,

I just want to say a HUGE thankyou and a big well done in all your music lessons this half term. I have loved receiving a video from your teachers each week showing me what you've been doing and how you've gotten on. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to music this term and I am already excited for Term 2.

Have a fabulous Christmas.

Hello Parents/Carers,

Lizards and I would like to share what we have been busy learning this term. It's been very exciting to be back to school after half-term and everyone's settled in very well!

In term 1a
  • Children had a lot of opportunities to talk about and share their lockdown experiences.
  • We focused on learning new rules and routines which help keep everyone safe and help children do their best in their learning. "I like the new learning behaviour characters because they help us remember the rules."
  • We took part in an Activ8 PE competition in which Sandringham came 2nd - well done us.
  • In Y2 we were especially excited to learn about knights and castles, our topic, and it's been great to see so many children and families get involve in the home learning tasks!
  • Get Bright Day - Big thank you to all families for your efforts, the children were super excited and looked really colourful!

In term 1b we are going to be scientists and do different experiments (...)
  • Children are learning about Diwali which is celebrated on the 14th November and some have done their own Rangoli patterns as part of the home learning. Some of the children said: "I enjoyed learning about Diwali because it's such a colourful celebration."
  • We will celebrate Remembrance day on the 11th November and take part in a whole school virtual event.
  • In Science, children will be real scientists and take part in different experiments to find answers to their inquiry questions.

Reminders:
  • PE on Mondays - please come with outdoor PE kit on.
  • Christmas jumper day on the 11th December.
A special thank you to all parents and carers for supporting the children and school following new routines and rules.

Our classroom

posted 3 Sept 2020, 08:10 by Patricia Freitas

Hello lizards,

First of all, I'm so pleased to see everyone has settled in so well in the past two days, we've been building relationships, sharing about special people in our lives and reminding ourselves of our classroom and school routines and rules.
This is what our classroom looks like:

I'd also like to share our morning routine so the children can talk to their adults about what they do.

See you tomorrow at 8.50am Lizards! :)

Hello Lizards,

I'm so pleased so many of you sent me your completed passports to year 2, I've had a great time reading through them and finding out more about each of you!
A special mention to Leo for also emailing me a Lizard facts poster and a Lizard drawing (I've attached for you to see).

I can't wait to see you all in our class tomorrow! :)

Take care,
Miss Freitas
