Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella – A Christmas gift from Opera North…
This song resource is being sent out in advance of us
sending out our free Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella performance film to schools
by the beginning of next week, so children have time to learn the short song in
preparation for watching and joining in with the performance! This is being sent out as a Christmas gift from Opera North,
as we realise it hasn’t been possible for schools to undertake Christmas trips
out to the theatre during this festive season. We hope this will bring the
magic of opera to pupils and teachers and will be the next best thing to
bringing a live Christmas production. Please find links to the resources below: An invitation from Fairy Godmother: https://youtu.be/VNYBTsxOtkw Cinderella’s Song Resource: https://youtu.be/t9vUjRlucnE Please find a copy of the song lyrics attached. |
Term 1
Lizards have had an exciting and very busy half term. We have been busy practising our phonics ready for our phonics screening check. We are proud of all the children’s efforts when practising reading alien words and real words. As part of our knights and castles topic, we have been using our geography skills to locate castles around the country. In music we have composed our own hairy scary castle song and accompanied it with percussion instruments. This term in history children have explored life in a castle. They have learnt about the features of medieval castles and how they were built to protect the people living inside. We have also continued to be scientist carrying out different experiments, exploring different materials and their properties. We have enjoyed our PE sessions with our Activ8 coach on a Monday, who has been teaching us some new skills. We have also taken part in another Activ8 PE competition, which was great fun!
Well done to all those children who continue to upload their weekly Maths and English work on Seesaw and also the creative pieces you have added as part of our topic. We have been busy rehearsing for our virtual Christmas concert, we hope you enjoy it!
Term 2a Next half term we will explore the enquiry question "How is where I live unique?". In Geography we will get to learn more about our local area and other places around the world. In Science we will learn about materials and forces. In History we will compare old and new buildings. We will also learn about an important female aviator and her journey to Australia! Reminders:
A special thank you to all parents and carers for supporting the children and school by following the routines and rules. Miss Freitas |
A BIG musical Thanks!
Hello Year 2, I just want to say a HUGE thankyou and a big well done in all your music lessons this half term. I have loved receiving a video from your teachers each week showing me what you've been doing and how you've gotten on. Thank you for your commitment and dedication to music this term and I am already excited for Term 2. Have a fabulous Christmas. Mrs Sutton |

A really, really big thank you Lizards. I really wasn't expecting that! I loved how you said you had made a mistake so it took me by surprise! I would loved to have taught you on my birthday but a really big thank you for my video.

Our classroom
Hello lizards, First of all, I'm so pleased to see everyone has settled in so well in the past two days, we've been building relationships, sharing about special people in our lives and reminding ourselves of our classroom and school routines and rules. This is what our classroom looks like: |
Welcome back!
Hello Lizards, I'm so pleased so many of you sent me your completed passports to year 2, I've had a great time reading through them and finding out more about each of you! A special mention to Leo for also emailing me a Lizard facts poster and a Lizard drawing (I've attached for you to see). I can't wait to see you all in our class tomorrow! :) Take care, Miss Freitas |
