Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella – A Christmas gift from Opera North…
This song resource is being sent out in advance of us sending out our free Whistle Stop Opera: Cinderella performance film to schools by the beginning of next week, so children have time to learn the short song in preparation for watching and joining in with the performance! This is being sent out as a Christmas gift from Opera North, as we realise it hasn’t been possible for schools to undertake Christmas trips out to the theatre during this festive season. We hope this will bring the magic of opera to pupils and teachers and will be the next best thing to bringing a live Christmas production. Please find links to the resources below: An invitation from Fairy Godmother: https://youtu.be/VNYBTsxOtkw Cinderella’s Song Resource: https://youtu.be/t9vUjRlucnE Please find a copy of the song lyrics attached. |
Newsletter - Christmas!
Hello Year 1! It is that time again when we write our termly newsletter. I really hope you have enjoyed your first term in Y1 and our topic 'Part of my World.' We have learnt a lot about our community, our history, and lots of healthy eating, science and DT to go along with it! We have been super busy! Both Lions and Giraffes have written a beautiful diary entry based on our core text, 'Grandad's Secret Giant.' Finally, with all the classroom decorated we are now ready to finish all your hard work and begin celebrating Christmas with you on the last week. Here are a few reminders: - Christmas Dinner on Wednesday 9th December - Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 11th December We are also looking forward to surprising you with a virtual Christmas Play! Watch this space! Looking forward to the new term and the new year ahead! Our topic will be called 'The Greatest Show' and based around entertainment and the circus! We are still waiting on ever changing guidance as to whether we can do any trips or events but we can't wait to be able to! Our initial plan was to be able to take the children to a Pantomime - which obviously isn't going to happen. So if you find any virtual ones or old ones on YouTube please watch them with your child and join in all the fun. This will link in with our next topic brilliantly. Our new PE day next term will be on a MONDAY. Please ensure your child comes to school in full PE kit and appropriate clothes for playing outside during the day. All the Y1 Team are completely blown away with the kindness, resilience and progress shown by all children at this crazy time! We are very proud to be working with you. All the best, and Merry Christmas from all our families to yours! x |
A BIG Musical Well Done
Wow! What a great start you have had to your music lessons Y1. You have already learnt 4 of the main key terms we will use during most of our music lessons and learn more as you move through school. I am looking forward to next term when hopefully your teachers will send me some videos to show me your great learning, as I've heard lots of exciting things! Have a lovely Christmas Mrs Sutton |
Newsletter!
What a great term we have had so far! It has been an amazing start to Year 1! Since coming back in September, the children have worked really hard on our 'Road to Recovery Curriculum.' We looked at lots of practical activities for maths and fine motor skills to help get us back in to our learning behaviours. The children really enjoyed looking at a range of art and jigsaw activities which eased us back in to school and helped us to discuss our experiences from lock down in a positive light. On week 5 we began looking at our current topic, 'Part of my World.' Looking at the local area and the history of our lives have been a priority during this time to really kick start our learning. The Year 1 team are disappointed we have not been able to take the children out of school and help them to explore their community, however if you get the opportunity to do this please do so! Our learning has quickly moved on to looking at healthy eating where we will be making fruit salads! I can speak on behalf of the teachers and the children when I say, we are all really enjoying learning about this and it has been a perfect way to start a strange year! Our class text will soon be 'Grandad's Secret Giant,' which is a beautiful story that we can't wait to share with the children. A few reminders - Our PE day is a Friday, where the children must come in PE kits appropriate for the weather. Please can every parent ensure that they are accessing seesaw for each weeks home learning; any problems please see your child's class teacher. Thank you for your on-going support. The Year 1 Team :) xx |
Memory Pictures
Hey Lions! Hope you have all had a super duper weekend! Thank you to everyone who has sent in pictures of their favourite memories so far! Just a quick reminder that if you have a picture you want to share of your favourite memory, send it to lions@sandringham.school, then we can look at it together and stick it in your book! Thanks, Miss Blakemore x |
Memories
On Monday we will be starting our new topic 'Part of my World.' This week we have been looking at timelines e.g. what could you do when you were a baby, toddler and now. To give children a deeper understanding of History and what makes us unique we will be looking further in to our History. To do this we will be sharing memories and stories from our life so far. Therefore, we are asking you this weekend to please discuss this with your child. This might be something they remember or a story you want to share with them, a family holiday, a memory from lockdown, the birth of a sibling, a party anything that is a memory for them! Please discuss this well with your child and send any information or pictures to your class email. The children will be sharing this with the class and doing some writing about this on Monday so the more knowledge they have the better! Thank you for your on-going support, Miss Linklater & Miss Blakemore xx |
Don't forget!
Hello Lions! Just a reminder that we start back at school on Wednesday 2nd September! I'm really looking forward to seeing you all! Miss B x |
Not long to go!
Hi everyone! Firstly, thank you to all of the children who have sent me their 'All About Me' documents! It has been lovely to read about your favourite books, colours and things that you like to do! It's not long now until we return to school. I am feeling SO excited, but I imagine some of you might be feeling a little nervous, too. I want to reassure you that we are going to have a wonderful time together in Year 1, and even though it will be a little bit different to what we're used to, myself and all the grown ups will be working hard to make sure you feel safe, and that you have lots of fun! Drop me an email if you need anything! Love, Miss Blakemore x |
