Autumn Term

posted 8 Sep 2016, 02:52 by Kelly Holdsworth   [ updated 8 Sep 2016, 04:18 by Chris Metcalfe ]

We have enjoyed welcoming the children in to Reception and beginning to get to know them. The children have settled well and have enjoyed playing and exploring inside and outside the setting.

This term we are spending the first few weeks learning more about your children through a 'My Family' topic. We will be asking children to bring in photographs and drawings of people and things that are important to them. These will be used as points for discussion and display. As we move in to Autumn our topic will change to 'Why do squirrels hide their nuts?'.
This will include learning opportunities about:
- Hibernation and migration
- Seasonal change in the natural world, where we will be visiting Sandall Beat Woods.
- Autumn foods
- Woodland animals
- Seasonal celebrations and festivals, which will include Divali and a Harvest Festival assembly, which you will be invited to attend.

During the last four weeks of the term we will be focusing on Christmas and the nativity story.
