Communication and Language

Talking about the journeys we have made in the holidays, and the different sorts of transport we have travelled on.

Exploring the seaside- Talking about the holidays to come, and re-creating the seaside in our learning.

Going to the seaside café to order lunch, teas, ice-creams etc.

 

Physical Development

P.E- Exploring the different ways we can travel on our feet. Getting ready for Sports Day.

Letter formation, how to write their name correctly.

 

Personal Social and Emotional Development

Playing cooperatively in the café and on the train. Taking it in turns to be the driver, to sell the tickets, and make the food.

 

Literacy

The Train Ride by June Crebbin – retelling and acting it out and role-playing going on a train.

Exploring Rhyme and alliteration.

Jolly Phonics, learning Jolly-Jingles that match the sounds of the alphabet. These can be found on-line.

 

Mathematics

Using money- making, writing, buying and selling tickets to use on the train. Going to the seaside café to order lunch, teas ice-creams etc. Recording numbers and amounts.

Maths-Writing numbers. Counting wheels. Adding wheels from two vehicles to see how many wheels altogether.

Recording time- Learning o’clock to find out when the train leaves and when the café opens.

 

Understanding the World

Construction- building train tracks and routes to the seaside.

Drawing maps to show how we can travel to the seaside.

Discovering life at the seaside -rock pools.

 

Expressive Arts and Design

Printing patterns recording rolling and travelling across paper.

Exploring rhythm, sound, volume and speed in music and percussion to tell the story.

Travelling songs- The Wheels on the bus/train

 

Home-Learning for the Holiday

We are looking forward to our Summer Holidays, going on journeys, and maybe going to the seaside

Here are some holiday ideas to record in your Child’s Magic Moments book.

·         Talk to your child about any plans you may have for the summer or talk about a holiday you may have already taken. Talk about how you got there /will get there.

·         Try to take a journey on a bus or train. Talk about the things you see and what it was like.

·         Take a trip to the seaside. Please bring back lots of seaside things from the beach to show.

·          Record any journeys you have made by drawing a picture, sticking in a ticket, or by drawing a map of your journey.

·         Record your favourite holiday moments with pictures, collages and photos.

 

Creative Homework

Please help your child make a model of a car, boat, bus, plane, train, rocket or balloon to show their friends at school.

We look forward to seeing your child’s lovely learning, their book and model after the holiday.

Our New Story for this next term is-Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy

Over the next few weeks we will be learning about this story. Please help your child by reading the story with them.

We will be learning to countdown from ten to blast-off into space.

We will be making rockets, packing for the journey and dressing up to go to the moon.

We will be exploring sieves, strainers and slotted spoons. Magnets and metals, rocks and stones. We will be exploring waterproof materials so we can make baby bear a waterproof helmet.

We will be talking about bedtimes, bath-times and night-time.

Creative Home Work 

Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy

The children have started to make some rockets in school this week so this topic will be a great learning opportunity for them.

Please help your child to make some sort of rocket to go to the moon.  It could be playing at home in a box and packing a picnic, or you could paint a picture, make a model or collage of a rocket.

Please could your child bring their creative work into school to hang in our Galaxy Gallery by the end of the first week.

Upcycling

Please would you collect any foil tins (not used for meat), plastic lids, clean egg boxes, boxes, cylinders and tubes for junk modelling. Please let me know if you have, or are able to get a large cardboard box, as we would love to build our own space rocket.

Magic Moments Books 

    This term we will be giving your child a Magic Moments book. This book allows us to share the things which are important to your child, both at home and at school. Each week we hope you will encourage your child to draw, write or stick something in that they have collected or something from a day out, for example a bus ticket, in order to share their excitement with their friends at school. Please helps us by labelling the pictures and writing on the names of the people we may see in pictures etc. 

    We will also use these books to update you with new school learning and the topics we will be covering each term.


Jolly Phonics - Our school’s phonic programme


          This term we will be sending your child home with a new sound to explore every week. There will be a picture to colour, a sound to say and an action to learn. Please help your child by talking to them about the sound, how to say it, and how to make the action. Your child may know things beginning with that sound or may recognise the letter from their name.

Please note, we will not be focusing on learning the letter names at this stage.

The first group of sounds we will cover contains-

You can find many resources online which help you to pronounce the sounds. Search for Jolly Jingles and you will find the songs to reinforce each letter sound.

Autumn Term

We are enjoying welcoming the children into Nursery. The children are settling well and they are enjoying playing and exploring, inside and outside the setting. 


Topics
This term we are spending the first few weeks learning more about your children through an "All About Me" topic. We will be asking children to bring in photographs, pictures and drawings of people and things that are important to them, week by week. These will be used as points for discussion and to stick into books. 

Autumn 
As we move in to Autumn our topic will include looking for signs of autumn and enjoying the story of the Little Red Hen, and celebrating Harvest. Please encourage your children to look for things to bring into school for "Show and Tell" at school.   

Seasonal celebrations and festivals, 
These will include Diwali and a Harvest Festival assembly, which you will be invited to attend. 
During the last four weeks of the term we will be focusing on Christmas and the nativity story.

Important dates for your diary:
Harvest Festival assembly Wednesday 19th October 2016 at 9 am- Families welcome. Afternoon Nursery are invited to attend the celebration  with their parents in the morning, and then return for their Nursery  in the afternoon.

Christmas Nativity Concert 
Tuesday 6th December at 2 pm  for afternoon Nursery and Wednesday 7th December at 9.30 am, for children attending the morning Nursery. This will include  a fund-raising bake sale.

Sign-up sheets will be available nearer the day.



Christmas Party
Friday 16th December from 12.30 pm. All Nursery will attend  the afternoon party. There will be no Morning Nursery on this day.

Reminders:
Children should wear appropriate footwear suitable for indoor and outdoor play.
Children need a water bottle everyday labelled with their name (water only, not fruit juices or flavoured water).
Please label all items of clothing.
Please make sure that your child brings a coat every day, as the weather can change very quickly.
